There’s nothing worse than flying halfway around the world to then stand in queues lasting hours for a must-see landmark or attraction that you probably won’t be catching again this lifetime.

A list, by hawaiianislands.com, was produced following an analysis of 10.74million Tripadvisor reviews for the top 100 'Traveler Favourite' attractions in each country, with a tally kept of reviews containing the phrase 'long queue'.

With the Olympics centre stage in Paris, it is no surprise that the Eiffel Tower comes top of the ranking, with the London Eye and Colosseum not far behind.

The analysis showed that the Eiffel Tower had 4,799 'long queue' mentions. The London Eye comes second in the ranking thanks to 4,756, with Rome's Colosseum notching up 4,262 references to a 'long queue'.

The biggest moans in the US revolve around the Empire State Building, New York (2,842 complaints), Top of the Rock, New York (1,305), San Francisco's Cable Cars (871), the Universal Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida (860) and Statue of Liberty in New York City (837).
